Beckschulte, *Anthony H.

An "Anthy Bukcholtz" is found in the 1850 Hamilton Co., Ohio Census (Cincinnati, 4th Ward, page 280). He is living in the home of C. F. Tonniez (age 28, grocer, born in England) and his wife Willehemia Tonniez (age 24, born in Germany). This "Anthy Bukcholtz" is listed as age 29, brushmaker, born in Germany. I'm not sure if this is the right individual we are looking for since this Anthy would have been born about 1821. However, a soundex search of the surname Beckshultz turned up many names and only this reference above comes anywhere close to being our Anthony.

The family is enumerated in the 1860 Hamilton Co., Ohio Census (Mill Creek Twp, page 133 or Ancestry.com page 266) as follows:

~ Mary Beckshult - age 19, born in Ohio
~ Annie Beckshult - age 1, born in Ohio
~ Henry Beckshult - age 30, farm hand, born in Prus.
~ Richard Waighaus - age 23, farm hand, born in Ham. (think this is Hamburg)
~ Richard Ossegas - age 32, farm hand, born in Ham.
~ Jacob Huber - age 17, farm hand, born in Prus.

The 1870 Wayne Co., Indiana Census (Richmond, Ward 1, page #29) shows Anthony's family as follows:
~ Beckshulte, Anton - age 37, cattle dealer, $2500 value in real estate, born in Prussia
~ Mary - age 31, keeping house, born in Ohio
~ Anna - age 11, born in Ohio
~ Henry - age 9, born in Ohio
~ Louisa - age 4, born in Ohio
~ Lizzie - age 2, born in Indiana

Anthony is listed in the 1880 Census for Wayne Co., Indiana (Richmond Twp, 1st Ward on page 51). It's difficult to make out where his and Mary's birthplace is. It appears to read "Bavaria". it also appears that is where both of their parents are born as well. In the 1900 Wayne Co. census (Richmond City, Ward 1, page 9), it shows his immigration was in 1848 and lists his occupation as a "veneering man." The family is the first family enumerated as living on South E Street. In the 1910 Wayne Co., Indiana Census (District 188, page 2) it appears his name is written as Anthony C. It looks like the family is enumerated as living on South 4th and E Streets. It's hard to read, but appears that Anthony immigrated to the US in 1848. (This is confirmed with the viewing of the 1900 census, immigration in 1848.)

1880 Census record and daughter Anna Mary's obituary show "Arthur", however tombstone inscription and the 1870, 1900 and 1910 Censuses show "Anthony".
