L. H. CORBIN was born in Henry County, Ky., May 28, 1818, a son of Samuel
and Margaret (Wigginton) CORBIN. Samuel was born October 1, 1786, and
married in December 1810, and became the father of three children--one
son and two daughters. He was engaged in agricultural pursuits all his
life, and died August 15, 1860. His widow died July 24, 1864. They were
both natives of Virginia, immigrated to Kentucky in 1797, and settled in
Montgomery County. Our subject's paternal grandfather was Louis CORBIN,
who was a Baptist preacher for fifty years, and was a son of William
CORBIN who was born in England. Mrs. Margaret CORBIN was born in Virginia,
a daughter of Henry Wigginton, who immigrated to Kentucky in 1797 and
settled in Bourbon County. Our subject's grandfathers on both sides
served in the Revolutionary war. In 1829 our subject moved to Bourbon
County, Ky., remained five years and then returned to Henry County, and
has been there ever since. He engaged successfully in merchandising in
New Castle from 1865 to 1868. Since then he has been engaged in
agricultural pursuits, and owns about 200 acres of land and is an
enterprising farmer. He was married November 19, 1840, to Miss Mildred
H. Stone, of Nelson County, a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Minor)
Stone. Ten children blessed their union: John S., Samuel R., L. H., Jr.,
Eli H., Belle, Elizabeth Whiteside, D. W., J. W., C. S., Sallie Jackson.
Mrs. CORBIN died October 8, 1885, a member of the Christian CHurch. Mr.
CORBIN is a member of the Baptist Church.
