Biography
Joseph is enumerated in the 1800 Census for Kent Co., Delaware in Misspillion Hundred in what appears to be page 100 (It is Image pg 14 at Ancestry.com). Enumerated very close to him is a Catherine Dawson who appears to be widowed and living only with children. There are just 12 families enumerated between them and they are on the same census page. This Catherine may be his sister-in-law, wife of his brother Elijah?

Also enumerated just two households from Joseph is a Jonathan Hollingsworth. Having also researched my Hollingsworth ancestors and knowing the Hollingsworths have a long history with the Society of Friends (Quakers), their close proximity to each other leads me to suspect that Joseph Dawson may be a Quaker. This assumption is also piqued by the fact that my line of Hollingsworth starts with a marriage to a Dawson in about 1875 in Indiana. My 2nd grandfather Robert Dawson married Catharine Hollingsworth whose great-grandfather, George Hollingsworth was one of the original settlers of the Silver Creek-Salem Monthly Meeting in Union County, Indiana.

In viewing all of the 1800 census pages for Misspillion Hundred, the only Dawsons listed were Joseph, Catharine, and Jonas. In Murderkill Hundred, the only Dawson listed was Shadrack Dawson. I have no proof as of yet that Joseph Dawson is indeed the father of Noah Dawson, but just a suspicion that Noah belongs to this Dawson family... and if not the son of Joseph, maybe Noah's the son of one of Joseph's brothers. I have copies of the probate info on Joseph but there is no mention of any of his children except his son Robert and son-in-law, Isaac Gruwell (husband of Polly Dawson) who were both administrators. There are several instances that tie Joseph Dawson to the Carter families of Kent Co. that further gives support to Joseph being the father of Noah. Further research is obviously still needed.

Hi, Stacy.

I came across these deeds in my old notes. You probably already have them, but I thought I should pass them along.
