From Noted Genealogist William Dollarhide:

The man who started the name in this country was Francis DOLLAHIDE, Sr. who
migrated from Great Britain in 1680. He was mentioned in records of Maryland as
having been transported to Anne Arundel Co., MD in that year. Later, he appears
in several more records, and lived in Baltimore Co, MD until 1721, when he died.
He was for a time, the High Sheriff of Baltimore County, and served as a member
of the Lower House of Lords in Colonial Maryland for several years. He was a
land owner, tobacco trader, and surveyor. He raised a family of several children,
some of which remained in Maryland, but the DOLLAHIDE name had completely died out
by 1775, the time of the revolution.

The "R" was added in spelling only in North Carolina, and became DOLLARHIDE.
I believe that the name originally was De La Hyde, which derives from the early
english-latin, "of the land" and was spelled de la Hyde as early as 1066, the time
of the Norman invasion of England. And in Ireland a Delahoyde family flourishes.
In fact, in the 1880s and 90s when great numbers of Irish were coming to this
country several families with the Delahoyde surname came into the midwest area.
In several cases they lived in the same areas where members of the Dollarhide family
lived.
