Hollingsworth, *Abraham

Resided Frederick Co. Va. until 1774, then Dunmore Co, Va. until 1777 then to North Carolina, and finally to Laurens Co, South Carolina.

1804, 8, 25. Abraham & family granted a certificate to Miami Monthly Meeting, in Ohio. (Bush River Monthly Meeting of Friends, Newberry County, SC - The Hollingsworth Register, Vol. 1, No. 1, page 21... Note: not sure if this is "my" Abraham, but seems probable as Miami, Ohio is very near to Union County, Indiana where his son George later lived and died and also likely based on the following land entry.)


In the book "First Land Entry Book of Union Co., Indiana" compiled & arranged by Arnold L. Dean, 1994 shows the following:
Abraham Hollingsworth, 24 Sept 1808, Twn T11N R1W, NE30

*NOTE: I am not convinced that Abraham's wife was Margaret Wright, though I have listed it here as that seems to be among the reports of other researchers. There are definite records of a Margaret Wright married to Abraham's brother, Joseph, but no definitive record I've found yet to prove she was married to Abraham. There was the recording of "10-23-1822 George, Franklin Co, son of Abraham and Susannah, married Hepzibah, daughter of Nathaniel & Hepzibah Macy, Union Co at Silver Creek MH" (Abstracts of the Records of the Society of Friends in Indiana, Vol. 2, Indiana Historical Society, Indianapolis, 1999). I am unsure yet who this Susannah might be.

*NOTE: Other researchers show Abraham died in Laurens Co., SC in 1791. Yet in the 1790 Census images for Laurens Co., SC there were several Hollingsworths listed but no Abraham listed as head of household. Perhaps he was living with one of his sons?

DB B, P 52 Know all men by these presents, that I, Abraham Hollingsworth of the County of Dunmore...for diver good causes and consideration...appoint Richard Campbell my lawful attorney in my name...to be executed one undivided half of a tract of land commonly called Joshua's Bottom in said county...devised to me by the will of my grandfather Robert McKoy, deceased...to execute deeds for conveying said Tract of land to Edwin Young...28 Sept., 1774... Between Abraham Hollingsworth, in the State of North Carolina, (to) Edwin Young of County of Shanando (sic) and Commonwealrth of Virginia...Consideration of Two hundred Pounds current money of Virginia, ...Certain piece or parcel of land lying on the South River, commonly known and called by the name of Job's Bottom which sd. two hundred & sixteen acres was devised to the sd. Abraham Hollingsworth by his grand father Robert McCoy, deceased by a last Will & Testament of said Robert McCoy duly recorded in County Court of Augusta...
