The following obituary appeared in the Richmond, IN Palladium-Item on Friday, June 27, 1947 (page 11, column 3):

"John A. (Hickory) Maze, 66 years old, died Thursday evening. He resided at 44 South Ninth Street. He was born November 14, 1880 at Owensboro, Ky. He was employed at the Bell & Wallace Co., and was a member of the St. Andrew's Catholic Church.
Survivors are the widow, Nellie; two daughters, Mrs. Joseph Suveges, Mrs. Wilbur Van Ausdall; two sons, Louis B., James I.; two sisters, Mrs. John Baker and Mrs. Nola Tipmore, both of Owensboro, and six grandchildren."

From the Palladium-Item on Sunday, June 29, 1947 page 9, column 5):

"John A. (Hickory) Maze - Funeral services for Mr. Maze will be held Monday at 9 a.m. in the St. Andrew's church in charge of Rev. C. O. Bosler. Burial will be in St. Andrew's Cemetary. Friends may call at the Unser & Waltermann Funeral home."
