Smith, *John S.

There are two John Smith's enumerated in the 1850 Erie Co., OH Census (Vermillion Twp). Based on the info listed for these John Smiths (i.e. - their ages, birthplaces) in this census and how they are enumerated in future Erie Co., Ohio censuses it is my conclusion that neither of these John Smiths is "our" John Smith. It is likely "our" John has probably already moved to Indiana. His sister and her husband Harriet and George Tucker are also not found in this 1850 Census and it is known that they also moved to Indiana. I have not yet viewed the census for 1850 Franklin Co., Indiana census where John married Sarah Carpenter in 1853.

There is some conflicting information about John. The research notes of a deceased unknown researcher (in the possession of Pam Fryer) show:
"John Loider Smith - b. Jan. 1,1827 in New York City, NY; d. Jan. 21, 1856."
No place of death was given in this research.

The bible recordings of John's sister, Harriett Lucy Ann (Smith) Tucker, show:
"John Soider Smith born New York Jan. 1, 1827; died Jan. 31, 1858"

The probate info of John's father show "John S. Smith" several times.

The info provided to me from Renee Cannon, much of it research of her grandmother Daisy Heath Cannon (who was herself a noted local historian in Iowa) shows: "John Loiden Smith, b. January 01, 1827, New York City, NY". Daisy had hired a professional researcher in New Hampshire and according to Renee Cannon, Daisy's research was well-referenced.
