Wulfhorst, *Maria Clara

Maria Clara Wulfhorst was born December 8, 1830 in Bohmte-by-Hunteburg, Hanover, Germany. She was baptised on 12/30/1830 at St. John's Catholic Church, the 4th child and only daughter of Otto Heinrich Wulfhorst and Maria Elizabeth Moenter.

By 1849, her father had died and her brothers Fred and Henry had emigrated to Cincinnati, Ohio several years before. She went to the proper authorities to get an emigration permit. This is from the Osnabrueck Archives, courtesy of Hubert A. Wulfhorst. He has not found any such permits for her brothers. It says in German:

"Da ich beabsichtige in den nachsten vier Wochen nach Amerika zu gehen, so mache ich dieses hierdurch vorschriftsmassig bekannt. Bohmte den 28 Mai 1849 --- Clara Wulfhorst

Gegen die Erteilung einer Ausreise nach Amerika an die Clara Wulfhorst aus Teckeners Kotten zu Bohmte, ist von Polizeiwegen nichts einzuwenden. Ostercappelin, den 2 July 1849---Dahlmann"

When the 1850 census was taken on September 4th in Cincinnati, she was listed as 20 years old and living in a private boarding house owned by John H. and Louise Finke, a moulder in Ward 10. About 1852 she married Herman Ahaus.
