Mary Joan Maze age 89 of Connersville, died peacefully on Wednesday July 3, 2013, at the home of her daughter.
She was born October 2, 1923 in Richmond, a daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Helen (Miller) Zeyen.
A 1941 graduate of Richmond High School, Joan married James I. Maze on June 5, 1943 at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Richmond. In 1955, they moved to Connersville and have lived there since. Joan was a homemaker and also worked as a bookkeeper and cashier at the old A&P store on Eastern Avenue for 12 years. She was an Avon sales representative and team leader for 20 years.
She is a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church. She was a 57 year member of Beta Chapter of Eta Pi Kappa sorority and a member and former treasurer of the Golden Gabriels at St.Gabriel's Catholic Church. She enjoyed music, going to ball games, and shopping. She was a member of the Senior Citizens Center and she enjoyed her many friends made while playing cards and bingo.
Survivors include four daughters, Janice Hall, Connersville; Judith Getz, Connersville; Mary Lou (husband Alan) Bottomley, Vero Beach,FL; and Nancy (husband Eric) George, Connersville; a sister Virginia McClure of Richmond; a brother John "Jack" (wife Irene) Zeyen of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada; nine grandchildren Jim (wife Jen) Wilson of Bushkill, PA; Jeff Wilson (wife Stephanie) of San Antonio, TX; Mike (wife Amy) Bottomley of Connersville; Stacy (husband Eric) Cox of Kennard; Joe (wife Trish) Smith of Connersville; Chris (fiancee Shana) Bottomley of Connersville; Jerry (wife Amy) Smith of Indianapolis; Brian (fiancee Carri) Getz of Indianapolis; and Crystal Bottomley of Connersville; three step grandchildren; 16 great- grandchildren; 8 step great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; and dozens of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband in 1988; her older sister Rosemary McGill; a grandson, Timothy Alan Bottomley; and a son in law, Walter Getz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday July 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Church with Rev. Stanley Herber officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4-8 P.M. at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home. Eta Pi Kappa will conduct a memorial tribute on Sunday at 7 P.M.
